A Foot Race

March 31, 2013 Speaker: Series: Citizens From On High

Passage: John 13:15

John 13:5 After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples' feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.

John 13:14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet.

Philippians 3:10-16 [10] I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,

[11] and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead.

Romans 6:5 If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection.

[12] Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.

[13] Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,

Luke 9:62 Jesus replied, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”

[14] I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

1 Corinthians 9:24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.

[15] All of us who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you.

[16] Only let us live up to what we have already attained.

1 Timothy 6:12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

John 20:26–29A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” 28 Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

Romans 10:15 And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!"
